Is the stupid box getting smarter?

Sharper perhaps. But smarter?

The people of the wombatland still retain its analogue signal  ...  in vain,  all the while the government is keen to make to permanent move to “diginal “ signal by 2008. Now the proposal has been amended for an extra four years, so it’s 2012 when the Austraiiyyans supposedly have gone digital.

Only problem is less than 10% have taken up the courage to experience what a (relatively) wonderful (not too mention novel) sensation those extra resolutions and news-on-demand could do to your head. To get round this, households now have access to the increasingly cheaper (hello China) set top box to bridge digital frequency into its old box. But still, the majority will NOT be prepared to live TV-free when the switch is turned off. What, you reckon the OZ plan to go back to their old pastimes, which would be tending sheeps all day long, shearing those precious wools .... Nah! I meant to say hitting the pub would be more like it.

Doesn’t really worry me though. I’m totally bagage-free, asset-free, carefree (OK, am working on this ……. presto, speriamo bene! *wink-wink). I don’t own no tv set. Must say program schedules bother me, they just don’t fit to my lifestyle, interrupt my sleeping pattern … now,  DVD is great but it costs $$ to hire them. A tremendous solution is employing our DVD recorder to its  max intended use. And there're heaps of foreign movies avail to burnnnnnnnnn ... to my heart's content.

Now, I just gotta figure out how to set the timer right and bob's your uncle! …  what's happened is, I've done this a couple times but a 50% well-done rate just aint good enough aye. Che peccato !

Now, the demand is : how are you, people on the correct (upper) side of the world as opposed to us downunder here, faring digital-TV wise? Have ye and yer lot made the move?
